Photography Interrupted

I got off to a pretty good start with my photography fun, and then I was on the road for work, so things got a little backed up in terms of reviewing, editing, and uploading photos. I also managed to get sick as I was leaving Mexico for home, and I lost a whole day to 20 hours of travel while making heavy use of airplane sick bags. :-( Needless to say, I was distracted, and ended up missing my 365 photo that day. Ah well, I know my 365s will never be perfect, so I'm OK with that. I also just completely spaced a photo last Friday. So be it.

While I was in Mexico, I did do my next weekly technique, which is shutter speed. I do have a series of shots from that, and I was going to put them together and talk about shutter speed for this post, but I honestly don't feel like I was focused enough to feel like I got what I wanted out of it. I decided I would do it again on the following week (last week) but with the travel home, being sick, and launching our new Drupalize.Me website, work has been nutso for me. I punted on technique work, and decided to try to just get my 365s done. So, this week I will get back to thinking about my shutter speed exercises.

One thing I've also realized is that having a tripod while traveling, or even just wandering around town, is really nice. I do own a regular tripod for recording video at home, but I've never considered traveling with it. It's just too big and annoying to carry around when I may not even use it, or at most use it rarely. I also have an old GorillaPod, but I realize that I got it for my point and shoot camera, and the Rebel is much bigger and heavier. So, I'm going to grab a GorillaPod SLR-Zoom when I get to the US. I love these things since they are small, lightweight, and useful in a lot of different ways. I have a feeling I'll need it for really slow shutter speeds, so I may as well go ahead and get it now.
