Here is my new favorite toy: an indoor rowing machine. I had never used one of these before and my trainer at the gym plopped me on it at the end of my workout for the day. I totally loved it, even though I was tired from lifting already. The rhythm of it felt veryContinueContinue reading “Meditation in Motion”

I Talk Good
Here is site that is great for getting all riled up over language, Common Errors in English. One of my favorite parts is the Non-Errors page. I am certainly not the grammarian that I was raised to be but boy-howdy there are some errors out there that just really get under my skin. One phraseContinueContinue reading “I Talk Good”
The Art of Being Sick
Today I called in sick to work. I was up most of the night with a mystery stomach problem that lasted until about midday. This morning I went back and forth over whether to go to work or not. I was gradually feeling better but I was having waves of nausea about once an hourContinueContinue reading “The Art of Being Sick”
I write for 8th Graders
According to the Gunning-Fog index of readability I’m very good at writing simple sentences (we’ll just ignore that five syllable word back there). I have a paltry (yet desired?) 8.91{8f8e1de30cd05f4f204cb462a11d30b8b55091276a9d5bd962aa203a2aae90c8} of words that are three syllables or more. I guess repeating syllable over and over again will push that up. My Gunning-Fog index is atContinueContinue reading “I write for 8th Graders”
Our Newest Family Member
We have a new kitten. Meet Zoe. She has actually been here for three weeks now and has more then settled in as the new matriarch. I didn’t write about us losing Otto in March. It all happened quite suddenly. We finally had more of an answer for his increasingly odd behavior as it seemsContinueContinue reading “Our Newest Family Member”
rocktreesky is a business!
Well, I’m officially a business now. I have my trade name registered with Maryland and have a new business bank account and credit card. At the beginning of the year I decided to do web design as a freelance side job. I’m keeping the day job working for the man, but I really enjoy workingContinueContinue reading “rocktreesky is a business!”
Cool toys for Geeks Like Us (TM)
So we went to a Holiday party 2 weeks ago that had one of those “bring a gift and we’ll play a game” things going on. This is that game where everyone picks a number and you sequentially pick a gift from the pile or steal someone else’s gift. Neither of us is a bigContinueContinue reading “Cool toys for Geeks Like Us (TM)”
My Sweet Baby Girl
Today we had to put my baby girl Capo to sleep due to kidney failure. She would have been 13 on Monday. I raised her from a tiny ball of fur that fit in my one hand. Taken from her mother too young, I weened her on corn flakes and milk. She was the queenContinueContinue reading “My Sweet Baby Girl”
An Interpretation
A spontaneous interpretation of a classic by my very self and Colleen around 6 a.m. this morning, inspired by Romeo (codename: Ro). Row, Row.Row your boat ashore.Hallelu, Hallelu. Michael.
Contrast and Sadness
Well, I have now moved to the Riverwalk Westin and have begun Linux Admin training for work. It feels pretty surreal. It almost makes last week feel like a dream. It is hard to go from helping people find food to eat to hanging out in a nice hotel with a feather bed and marbleContinueContinue reading “Contrast and Sadness”
